Cathryn Amidei
Studio 2 - trustArt Studio
Digital Handweaving
Cathryn Amidei is a contemporary textile artist known for her hand woven contemporary tapestries that combine traditional weaving with modern technology, creating complex and dimensional surfaces.
Amidei's art explores themes of connections, motion, and interactions, reflecting on natural spaces and the body as a landscape.
She sees weaving as a process that reveals truths about material, systems, and human existence.
I create my textiles using images derived from my own oil pastel drawings and photographs. I often incorporate hand-dyed yarns and a variety of materials, including cotton, silk, and ramie, paper and recycled raffia.
I have also worked extensively with natural dyes for my yarns as well as for printing special, functional textiles.
I love my studio at TrustArt and welcome you to come and hang out and learn more about how I do what I do.

Susan Jacob
Studio 3
Mixed Media/Collage
I am a mixed-media collage artist who loves to explore the interplay of color and light. My process involves making designs on tissue paper, which I then cut and paste to create “paintings.” I enjoy engaging with others who are curious about my methods, always happy to respond to the “How did you do that?” question.

Watercolor
One of the great joys of being an artist is sharing work with others, making a human connection that art facilitates. As a watercolor artist, it's so fun to push boundaries and break misconceptions about what can and cannot be done with this amazing medium.

Carol Furtado
Studio 5
Fabric
My unique felt work on silk has many individuals questioning how I adhere the designs into the silk. I will be setting up a display in my home that I hope will answer some of these questions. I will also have finished pieces that I will be showing. My cozy handwoven hats and scarves in many colors and my newer “fancy hats”are always favorites. If you miss me on this day, I hope to have my annual showing of my work on December 5th and 6th

Studio 9
Hand Weaving
Textile production takes lots of space: for looms, for spinning wheels, for yarn storage and for all that is needed to take fiber from sheep, cocoon, or plant to finished fabric. There is also the library and sample books for reference. The studio itself is an art piece: a place designed with care for its function. It converts into a gallery for two annual studio sales. Both weaving and working studio are on display for the art tour.

Encaustic, monotype, cyanotype & mixed media assemblage
My work focuses on the natural world from plants to glaciers. My practice is strongly rooted in fieldwork whether it’s the UP or the Arctic Circle and often includes partnering with scientists. Working with everything from satellite images to microscopy as well as painting and drawing means my work explores a range of scales and media. I welcome you to my studio to see the results of my explorations and learn about the tools I use.

Dennis Gordon
Studio 11
Woodcuts, wood and other engravings.
I did a studio tour on my own last year and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed showing people my studio and some of my artwork process. Most people are not that familiar with printmaking and I had multiple areas set up to help visitors understand the different steps. I am fortunate to have a pretty large, airy studio and can accommodate a fair number of people. The wood I use for my woodcuts/engravings is repurposed from solid wood furniture that people are trying to get rid of (mostly entertainment centers). It is a lot of work to disassemble and cut up, but attached is a photo of the end of that process. Winter's View is an example of combining a background painting, wood block print and matboard engraving. Teasel is a large wood block print on mulberry fiber paper. I had to seam together two maple blocks for this 22"x32" piece.

Watercolor and Jewelry
"I'm excited to welcome you to my new studio where I have been doing imaginary landscapes in watercolor and experimenting with mixed media. I am interested in the way water and mineral pigments interact and the aspect of flow that is accessed through the act of painting.
I will also have a selection of fine jewelry that I make using gemstones and precious metals. My jewelry can also be found at WSG Gallery on Ann Street in Ann Arbor.
This studio tour is a result of much collaboration-thank you for coming!"

Painting, sculpture, photography
As a fairly new resident in Ann Arbor, I’ve been renovating our garage into a studio. Inspired by years of participating in studio tours in Washington, D.C. and Virginia—where I had wonderful conversations, received feedback, commissions, and sales—I suggested to Idelle Hammond-Sass, who also has a new home studio nearby, that we start a tour here. I’m delighted to continue that tradition and help build something meaningful in our community!

Jewelry / metalsmithing
My interest in modernism and minimalist design, which I explore through my work, is reflected in my home. Both the design of the home and our art and furniture objects within it represent my aesthetic vision. Visitors to my studio will receive a tour of the living spaces of my 1964 home designed by Ann Arbor architect James Livingston which is within the Thornoaks Neighborhood Historic District, the first mid-century neighborhood to receive historic designation in the state of Michigan.
